For years the most annoying thing about wireless charging was that everyone charged their own way. Apple had MagSafe, while Samsung and Google each ran their own magnetic rings and cases, so one pad rarely fed the whole family. If a home mixed iPhone and Android, the desk needed at least two pads. In 2026 that awkward split is finally loosening.
The shift comes from WPC's Qi2.2 standard. It bakes magnetic alignment and a 25W EPP ceiling into one certification, and Apple, Samsung and Google now all build on it. Elecdov's 2026 flagship compatibility guide puts it plainly: the iPhone 18 series hides a MagSafe ring in the back glass and aligns with no case; Google's Pixel uses Pixelsnap, also built into the chassis; Samsung's foldables ship without an embedded ring, so a magnetic case is needed to reach 25W. But all three are Qi2.2 certified, so a certified 25W magnetic pad snaps onto any 2026 flagship and starts charging.
One pad for all, what it means
For buyers the real win is simple: for the first time you make one purchase decision. Where an Android phone and an iPhone once shared almost no charging gear, a single Qi2.2 25W pad now serves a mixed drawer of flagships. Pack one for travel, keep one at home, and stop worrying about 'which pad for whom'.
For brands, one standard also kills duplicate engineering. WPC's 2026 Beijing off-cycle meeting pushed Qi2.2 past 637 certified products, with three-in-one stations taking over 30% of new certifications. With a common standard, a single SKU ships worldwide instead of a separate mold per market.
Still check the certification mark
That said, unified does not mean buy anything. A pad without WPC Qi2.2 certification that advertises 'up to 25W' may be BPP-only hardware that never exceeds 5W on a flagship. Look for the mark before checkout, and prefer brands that print the certification number on the product page, so 25W is real 25W.
2026 is the year wireless charging became mixed-household by default. One pad for the whole family finally moved from wishful thinking to the norm.
