Walk into any accessory aisle in 2026 and the busiest wireless charging shelf is the 2-in-1: one magnetic pad for the phone, a small round spot beside it for earbuds. The number of brands making them has exploded, and so has the price spread, from the low forties to just over a hundred dollars. Both claim 25W magnetic charging, so why the twofold gap?
Check the certification, not the word magnetic

Here is the counterintuitive part: not every pad stamped magnetic has passed Qi2.2. The real gate is WPC certification. As of mid-September 2026 only six 2-in-1 products carried Qi2.2 certification, two from Belkin (Qi IDs 23930 and 24040), two from UGREEN (24287 and 24326), one from AUKEY (24382) and one from nimble (24744). That short list tells you the category is only getting started. Look for the Qi2.2 or Qi2 25W mark on the box rather than the adjectives on a product page.
That 25W is for the phone; the earbud pad is basically 5W
This is where most buyers get misled. The advertised 25W applies to the phone side; the earbud pad is a basic 5W stage, fine but not fast. Power supply matters more. Products like Belkin's ship with a 45W USB-C power adapter, and Amazon's own-brand 2-in-1 includes a 45W adapter at around the low forties. Plenty of cheap units give you a cable but no adapter, so plugging in an old 18W brick drops you straight out of the 25W tier. Some brands add a bonus 5W USB-C port for a smartwatch, effectively splitting a 3-in-1 into a 2-in-1 plus a port, which saves desk space if you wear a watch but have no use for a dedicated watch puck.
Thermals are the third dividing line. At 25W, weak passive cooling means power throttling. Belkin uses a passive cooling structure it calls ChillBoost on its 2-in-1, claiming an iPhone 16 goes from 0 to 50% in 29 minutes. Fan-cooled 25W single pads exist around the fifty dollar mark, but squeezing a fan into a 2-in-1 body is hard, so this category mostly fights heat with materials and structure.
One-line advice: if your daily carry is one phone and one pair of earbuds, a 2-in-1 takes less desk space and costs less than a 3-in-1. Buy it with Qi2.2 certification, confirm whether a 45W adapter is included, and remember the 25W serves the phone only. If you also need to charge a watch, either pay up for a 3-in-1 or pick a 2-in-1 that adds a spare USB-C port.
