Gallium nitride has gone from a geek term to a shelf staple in two years. Industry estimates put GaN adapter penetration at about 22 percent in 2026, up from under 15 a year earlier, and several research houses peg GaN's share of the fast-charger segment between 35 and 40 percent. Behind the numbers, the whole accessory chain is being redesigned.
Small and powerful, perfectly feeding 25W wireless
Running Qi2 at its full 25W needs a wall source that holds 30W plus steadily. The old silicon approach at that wattage bulges with a transformer and heatsink that eat bag space. GaN pushes switching frequency up and shrinks the magnetics, cutting volume by nearly a third at the same power, so the default travel combo is now a palm-sized brick, one cable, and a 25W magnetic pad. Shoppers may not know GaN, but they feel it: the charger is smaller and the phone fills faster.
The ecosystem follows: bundles and kits
Once GaN heads became the default, makers began bundling them with wireless pads, a 3-in-1 dock paired with a GaN wall plug that is full-speed out of the box. For the wireless category this matters because users once put off by a too-big brick now have no reason not to switch. Looking ahead, GaN is not just speeding up wired charging, it is lowering the barrier to high-power wireless across the board.
